The Blessed Friend of Youth Saint John Bosco, by Neil Boyton, S.J.
New York, The Macmillan Company. Pgs: 213. I remember finishing this book about five years ago, and have been drawn to him ever since. It was my first experience in reading about Don Bosco, and it was clearly not going to be my last. The little red paperback book is warn and well-loved, and I have been able to hand out dozens of them to those in youth work over the years. I have found his witness to be such an encouragment for anyone working in youth ministry. Don Bosco had a real love for kids, and because of this he is the patron saint for youth. Father Bosco was quick to use illusions, entertaining performances, and other antics in order to draw a crowd for evengelistic purposes. His sincere care in saying the Rosary, establishing places for the neglected kids to hang out and be cared for, and his constant trust and dependance upon Mary have been a great encouragement to me. I love this saint! He is known for his many dreams and visions, and the one who founded the Salesian order. The book is easy to read, and filled with wonderful stories, which are told in a fairly authentic way. He has many representatives within the Salesian order today stationed around the world, but he is most definately loved by multiple thousands. Get to know this saint! He has taken time getting to know you.
